Molnlagring har politiska aspekter. Förutsättningarna för Apples molntjänst iCloud kommer inom kort förändras för kinesiska konsumenter:

Apple Inc. has not explained the real issue, which is that a state-owned big data company controlled by the Chinese government will have access to all the data of its iCloud service users in China. This will allow the capricious state apparatus to jump into the cloud and look into the data of Apple’s Chinese users. [...] In other words, once the agreement is signed, GCBD — a company solely owned by the state — would get a key that can access all iCloud user data in China, legally.

Tim Cook: soft on communism?

Inte vidare bra för Apples rykte. Inte bara bland oss frihetsälskande liberala skönandar i det demokratiska väst, utan kanske även bland kinesiska konsumenter.

Lo Shih-hung, professor i samhällsvetenskap vid det taiwanesiska nationella Chung Cheng-universitetet, skriver i artikeln i Hong Kong Free Press där citatet ovan är hämtat ifrån om just en känsla av "förräderi" bland kinesiska konsumenter eftersom man uppfattar att Apple böjt sig lite väl enkelt för den kinesiska kommunistdiktaturstatens krav på innehållet i AppStore (VPN-klienter plockas bort på löpande band, Skype är inte tillgängligt i Kina).
